I made this in a pink frenzy. Next day, my graphic design teacher asked me to explain it; i came up with the following on the spot & thought it was, at the very least, amusing. Don't feel compelled to read it though...(i have to assume my audience is incapable of artistic interpretation...
This piece began as one of a series of abstract 3D renders produced in Cinema 4D. As per usual, it looked pretty from the start, but it wasn’t until my sanity went through the roof after a long, near-sleepless week that this piece took flight. The title, “Read (the lines)” is a loaded joke of sorts; the “read” scrawled at the bottom of the piece recalls the ubiquitous posters promoting reading, such as those seen in the CSUS library. However, the only “readable” aspects to the piece are the typographic elements, and reading those “lines” takes some serious effort (not to mention between them…. There is legible English there, but the typography’s use as a pure visual element struggles with it, reflecting an age-old debate in typographic design between legibility and visual design. If you read Japanese or just stare long enough, the typography tells the 2nd part of the piece’s story: “The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog (and bit my head off)”. The first bit of that is a well known phrase in font design that uses all 26 letters. That the fox bit off my head therefore suggests that design (the creative process, this piece in particular, etc) somehow disconnected my head, a concept that reflects the duality of artistic creations like this one. Either my head, that well of ideas, disconnected from my body and flew to some bizarre obscure corner of space to design in peace; or my hand created on its own, without input from the bitten-off head. Whatever the case, typography, legibility, and the design process can all be seen here to some degree in all their glowing glory.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
